Marilyn (Lyn) Long

Lyn’s Celebration of Life was  held on Saturday, May 30th.

A quick overview of Lyn’s life includes…

  • Grew up in a small Illinois farming community, surrounded by family, friends and faith
  • Graduated from Abingdon HS (Illinois)
  • Graduated from Cottage Hospital School of Nursing with an RN degree
  • Attended the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Nursing
  • After moving to Bowling Green her primary “career role” was as homemaker, helping her kids and husband in so many ways
  • She was involved in the church as an Elder and in Presbyterian Woman (including at the regional and national levels)
  • Lyn became an organizer & volunteer extraordinaire
    • co-founding the Wheeled Meals organization
    • co-establishing the hospice program in Wood County
    • regular Wheeled Meals driver
    • packing and delivering cartloads of Kroger bakery items into her car and driving them to the Food Pantry
  • She was an attentive parent and grandparent (and daughter, sister, aunt, …) caring for her family in many ways

Among some lesser-known facts, she…

  • sang with her two sisters in a trio
  • was still bicycling, enjoying the exercise and economizing natural resources even into her 80s
  • was honored as Bowling Green’s “Female Citizen of the Year” in 1986
